Our IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) training courses are held in our top-class venue located at Darlington, County Durham – which is the largest indoor training venue in the Northeast of England for Rope Access and Working at Height Training. Additionally, the venue has been purpose-built to simulate an oil and gas module to help the participants feel more comfortable and suited to their own working environments.

The level 3 instructors conducting the IRATA Rope Access Level 1, 2, and 3 training courses have over 30 years combined experience working within the industry and are both experts in their own individual fields. Within these courses, you’ll work on the skills needed for certification to become either a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 rope access technician. Our instructors are very welcoming, friendly, and professional to make people who are new to the industry feel comfortable and safe when undertaking their course.

If you haven’t been on the ropes for a while, our refresher training course is great to get reacquainted with your rope access skills. Below, we’ve outlined the different course levels, what they include, and their requirements. All our training courses require participants to be 18 years of age or older, submit a signed “Statement of Medical Condition,” and meet IRATA requirements.

IRATA ROPE ACCESS LEVEL 1 (ENTRY LEVEL)

IRATA Rope Access training provides technicians with the skills and knowledge required to work at height where ropes are needed to gain access to and from the work position and remain in suspension.

Level 1 is the entry requirement course for technicians wanting to pursue a career in rope access. The course is 4 to 5 days training followed by 1 day of assessment. An IRATA Rope Access Level 1 technician can perform a limited range of rope access tasks working under the supervision of a level 3, the skills include:

Inspect their own personal rope access equipment

Correctly use rope access equipment

Be capable of undertaking basic rope access operations under the guidance of a IRATA Level 3

Undertake a rescue whilst working from a descent

Have the knowledge of a rig-for-rescue system and how to tie a basic anchor system

IRATA ROPE ACCESS LEVEL 2

Level 2 is an intermediate-level training course for trainees who want to develop their rope access career further and be on their way to becoming an IRATA Level 3. Level 2 technicians are capable of rigging working ropes, performing rescues, and performing various rope access tasks. The course is 4 to 5 days training followed by 1 day of assessment. Delegates completing a Level 2 IRATA Rope Access training course will be able to:

Undertake advanced rescues under the supervision of an IRATA level 3 rope access technician

Perform advanced rope access tasks under the supervision of an IRATA level 3 rope access technician

Have some knowledge of legislation, safety requirements, and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access

A Level 2 IRATA Rope Access training course includes:

Legislation, industry guidelines, and standards

Teamwork and communication

Equipment and rigging including wide ‘y’ hang, re-anchor, deviations, rope and sling protection, pull-through, tensioned lines, work restraint, horizontal lifelines, anchorage selection

Develop an in-depth knowledge of hauling

To complete a Level 2 IRATA Rope Access training course, participants must have:

Held an IRATA Level 1 certificate for at least one year

A minimum of 1,000 logged hours at Level 1

Hightech Industrial Access cannot stress the importance of maintaining your logbook and keeping it in a good working order. In accordance with the IRATA logbook policy as set out in the ‘Training Assessment and Certification Scheme’, technicians are responsible for the correctness, accuracy and completeness of all entries recorded in their IRATA logbooks. Non-compliance with these requirements will likely result in a sanction from IRATA.

Please maintain logbooks properly. The IRATA Logbook is an important document that is relied upon throughout industry. Guidance on how to correctly complete logbooks can be found on the IRATA Website. If ever in doubt, please contact IRATA for further clarification.

IRATA Rope Access Level 3 (Site Safety Supervisor)

An IRATA Level 3 is the qualification you require to work as a Rope Access Supervisor. They are experienced rope access Technicians who are responsible for setting up and managing the rope access worksite. They are also responsible of understanding, and implementing the rope access procedures, along with being able to write and follow method statements, risk assessments and rescue plans. Level 3 IRATA Rope Access training course participants will be able to:

Supervise rope access work projects

Understand all relevant work techniques and legislation

Deftly demonstrate all the skills and knowledge required of IRATA rope access levels 1 and 2

Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of advanced rescue techniques

Show that suitable first aid training has been undertaken (and hold a current first aid certificate)

Have a good knowledge of the IRATA training, assessment, and certification scheme

Be familiar with the contents of the IRATA International Code of Practice (ICOP)

A Level 3 IRATA Rope Access training course includes:

Equipment inspection

Management and records

Risk assessment and method statements

Rescue management

Management of team exercises

Must be competent to complete everything on the FM-025 Assessment Form

To complete Level 3, delegates must have:

Held an IRATA Level 2 certificate for at least one year

A minimum of 1,000 logged hours at Level 2

IRATA 1 Day Refresher

Rope access technicians who haven’t been engaged in rope access work for a minimum period of 6 months must attend a refresher training course, before they’re permitted to work again. This one-day refresher course includes:

IRATA Rope Access Refresher Level 1 – Covering all techniques learned during level 1 training

IRATA Rope Access Refresher Level 2 & 3 – Covering all methods with a focus on rigging and rescue procedures
