Hightech Industrial Access

Supplying Decommissioning Services across the U.K.

Decommissioning is the act of taking something out of service and shutting down its primary operation or use. There are many reasons that something might be decommissioned: it is dangerous, unstable, faulty, irrelevant, redundant, out of date, or needs repairs. Anything that is decommissioned can be re-commissioned, repurposed, demolished, or otherwise safely destroyed and disposed of.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we offer old structure decommissioning, pipeline decommissioning, tank decommissioning, tank removal, and mechanical equipment decommissioning services covering the whole of the U.K. We also offer an array of other industrial services within the Building and Petro-chemical sectors. To learn more about how we can provide safe, effective solutions for your industry, contact us today.

Structural Decommissioning

Structural decommissioning is used to remove part or all of a building or structure that is deemed no longer safe or useful for its original purpose. A building or structure that is decommissioned can be repaired, renovated, re-commissioned, repurposed, or demolished. The most common types of structural decommissioning in the UK are the removal of power stations, oil rigs, factories, warehouses, and public buildings.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we may be called on to decommission a structure in order to protect it, reduce ongoing costs, or reduce hazards and risks to protect the safety of the public. We utilise careful planning and management to ensure that all structural decommissioning is carried out safely and efficiently.

Pipeline Decommissioning

Pipeline decommissioning involves shutting down the operation of a pipeline for repairs, repurposing, or removal. A company may consider pipeline decommissioning if a section of the pipeline has become irrelevant, redundant, or no longer needed, or if a new pipeline will replace a section that is no longer required.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we handle all stages of pipeline decommissioning, including removing product from the pipeline safely and according to all standards and regulations, cleaning the pipeline’s interior, disconnecting the pipeline from existing facilities, creating barriers preventing anything from entering and exiting the pipeline, and ensuring no contaminants enter the environment.

Vessel Decommissioning

Vessel decommissioning is the act of decommissioning and recycling vessels and marine structures at the end of their life; for example, when they have stopped providing useful services or are no longer safe to utilise. Vessel decommissioning in the UK involves terminating the career of a ship’s service for example, in the armed forces a ship may have reached the end of its usable life and is no longer needed for service. If a ship is too old, unstable, or unsafe to be used for another purpose, it may need to be safely broken apart and repurposed, recycled, or destroyed.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we can safely and efficiently decommission vessels of all sizes, ensuring that we remain in full compliance with environmental safety standards. We work closely with decontamination, disposal, and recycling contractors to ensure that decommissioning is done on time with safety at the forefront.

Tank Decommissioning

Oil tank decommissioning is the process of removing an oil tank from service while reviewing, assessing, and remedying any effects it has had on surrounding soil and environment. Oil tank decommissioning in the UK may involve either removing the tank from the property or rendering it unusable and filling it with an inert substance like sand or foam.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we offer tank removal, or abandonment in place tank decommissioning. In addition to decommissioning an oil tank, we also provide cleanup of contamination to the surrounding environment. We ensure that all tank decommissioning is done in accordance with environmental safety standards, such as ISO14001 and all other regulations. We can cap the tank, fill it with inert material, or remove it from the ground completely. If we remove the tank from your property, we will transport it offsite to be cut, cleaned, and scrapped.

Mechanical Equipment / Plant Decommissioning

Mechanical equipment decommissioning in the UK involves Isolating, disconnecting, and removing a piece of mechanical equipment. Correctly decommissioning and removing large pieces of mechanical equipment must be done safely and with care to ensure that it poses no future risk to anyone’s safety. The machine can be dismantled, repurposed, recycled, or removed depending on project requirements.

At Hightech Industrial Access, we specialise in decommissioning large pieces of mechanical equipment in the Oil & Gas, Petro-chemical, Renewable, Drilling, Pharmaceutical, and Energy / Utility Sectors. We can fully disassemble machinery, including fully isolating. If a machine is going to be put back together again at a new site, we will remove as little as possible from the machine or module to make it easier to reassemble. We fully comply with all safety standards when decommissioning any equipment that may contain toxic chemical residue or hazardous material.
