What is classed as working at height?

In the U.K. anywhere where there is the potential to have a fall, due to not using fall prevention systems is considered Working at Height, i.e. if you need to run a handrail along a curbside to prevent someone falling off, then this is considered working at height. Or even if you are working on a flat, fragile surface with no edges, however you need to place nets below the surface, this is also considered working at height. Horizontal & Vertical Lifelines

If you require access to an area that faces issues from working at height, but the use of traditional methods, such as handrails, MEWPS or Scaffolds are not feasible or inaccessible, then you may require the need for a Permanent lifeline system being installed. Hightech Industrial Access are authorised installers of an industry-leading horizontal and vertical lifeline system, allowing users to work safely at height without restrictions to their movement. The system is either fitted to the outer roof skin or to the rail of a ladder and uses innovative shock-absorbing technology to spread and dissipate the shock caused from a fall, protecting both the user and the structure it is fitted to. The system is independently tested and certified to comply with EN795:2012.

A key factor to the Horizontal Lifeline system is that the user can move freely whilst connected to the line, without the need to disconnect from the system and compromise their own personal safety. Furthermore, the system is designed to protect up to 4 users,  and can be used for both Work Restraint and Fall Arrest.

Once the system is installed the team at Hightech Industrial Access can provide training on the safe usage of the system, along with providing annual inspections to ensure the system remains compliant with the manufacturers’ guidelines.
